This role will undertake responsibilities as a lead Human Health and Environmental Risk Assessor for Jacobs CH2M projects in the Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) Region. The Human Health and Environmental Risk Assessor will provide technical leadership within our national team and fulfil an important mentoring role in our growing and active environmental group. This role can be part time or full time to suit the successful candidate.

 

Human Health and Environmental Risk Assessor

  • Take a leadership role in risk assessments across the Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) region acting as the point of contact for Jacobs CH2M risk assessment ‘Community of
  • Practice’ and supporting the development of other Australian risk assessors
  • Commitment to our ‘Beyond Zero’ culture, contribute to environmental and safety plans and promote high standards of safety and environmental stewardship
  • Actively participate in growing existing and new clients across the full spectrum of services provided by the Environmental Services business group and lead the growth of the risk assessment practice in the ANZ region
  • Conduct and oversee the production of generic and detailed qualitative and quantitative risk assessments within the Australian regulatory framework, including identifying and / or deriving appropriate risk-based screening levels for human health and environmental (groundwater, surface waters, ecological) receptors
  • Provide input into the design of contaminated land investigation strategies to enable sufficient information to be collected in the field to support future risk assessments if required
  • Provide input into the design of remediation strategies and work with other project managers in developing risk based remediation criteria to support remediation implementation
  • Provide technical support, focusing on risk assessment, to project managers throughout the Asia Pacific Region when required
  • Develop relationships within Jacobs CH2M international risk assessment ‘Community of Practice’ to enable identification of people to support and provide advice on challenging issues
  • Evaluate data and write reports for submittal to clients & regulators across the full spectrum of contaminated land services
  • Manage and / or support project managers with the safe delivery of site investigations and remedial works projects strategically focused on risk drivers, regulatory requirements and client expectations
  • Supervise, support and mentor junior staff within the Environmental Solutions team with technical works, project delivery and career development

Professional currency

  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of Australian regulatory guidance, risk assessment methodologies, screening levels, best practices and Australian contaminated land issues for both human health and environmental receptors
  • Maintain a professional membership and attend industry events to retain professional certifications or accreditations, and to keep connected within the industry
  • Remain current and aware of emerging science and technical developments
  • Be well-informed of regulatory changes and amendments to guidance documents and standards relevant to the industry
  • Work closely with Jacobs CH2M’s international technologists, to ensure global best practice is consistently available to our clients and offered in our project and remedial solutions

Sales and business development

  • Assist the environmental solutions team in identifying and pursuing potential projects
  • Lead or provide technical support on tenders and proposals, including developing methodology and cost estimates for fee proposals

The minimum qualifications for this position are:

  • An applicable engineering or science degree
  • Applicants considered with 8 years to Principal level of relevant experience
  • A proactive persona with excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong proven technical and delivery background
  • Australian Defence experience would be desirable
  • Permanent Residency of Australia or Australian citizenship essential
  • A full current drivers licence is required

Melbourne, Brisbane or Sydney based office role but willing and able to travel to project sites for local and remote work, as required
