The Opportunity

The Mark Wainwright Analytical Centre (MWAC) is recognised as a leading centre nationally that delivers a comprehensive suite of core research facilities. It has a strong culture of collaboration with its research stakeholders. Major stakeholders are in Science, Engineering and Medicine, with support provided to all Faculties as well as external users. Recently MWAC has undergone significant expansion, notably in adding new facilities to support health and biomedical research. Further immediate growth is in the pipeline, including in support of the Randwick Health and Innovation Precinct, with new facilities and services coming online in 2024. 

Reporting to Pro Vice-Chancellor Research Infrastructure, Grainne Moran,you will lead MWAC through its next developmental phase. Overall responsibilities include:

  • Develop and execute the strategic vision for MWAC in alignment with UNSW's strategic priorities
  • Lead a team of dedicated facility Directors and support staff to deliver short- and long-term plans for MWAC
  • Cultivate partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to secure funding and enhance research infrastructure.
  • Collaborate across the organisation to support the research aspirations of our stakeholders
  • Oversee the planning and implementation of initiatives to support the Randwick Health and Innovation Precinct.

About the successful applicant

You have a PhD a PhD in a Science/Engineering/Medical Sciences discipline relevant to MWAC's mission as well as: -

  • Proven track record in leading strategic research infrastructure programs
  • Experience in securing funding from government agencies, industry partners, and other sources
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and lead a diverse team
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective stakeholder engagement.
  • Commitment to fostering a collaborative and inclusive research environment.
