The South Australian Government has announced work has begun on the $439 million Snowtown II site.

Capable of generating 270 megawatts from its 90 turbines, Snowtown II is expected to generate enough power for around 180,000 homes.

“This project will add considerable capacity within South Australia to generate clean, green power from renewable sources,” State Industrial Relations Minister Russell Wortley said.

“South Australia is increasingly recognised as a world leader in renewable energy. If we were a country in our own right, we would be second in the world when it comes to generating powe

through renewable technology.”

South Australia has already exceeded its 20 per cent clean energy target, and is now expected to produce as much as 33 per cent of its energy through sustainable sources by 2020.
