Watpac’s Construction division has been awarded two contracts totalling $155 million in Queensland’s south-east region.

The first is the $107 million Advanced Engineering Building at The University of Queensland’s St Lucia campus in Brisbane which has been jointly funded by the Australian Government through the Education Investment Fund, the Queensland Government and The University of Queensland.

The seven-storey, 22,000 sqm building will aim to achieve a Green Star rating from the Green Building Council of Australia, and will comprise testing laboratories, teaching areas and support facilities, design studios, administration offices, and an auditorium.

The second project is the $48 million Boondall Aged Care Facility in Brisbane.

Watpack is also constructing the  Queensland Institute of Medical Research’s (QIMR) Smart State Medical Research Centre.  The 15-floor research facility has reached the ‘topping out’ stage and will be ready to accommodate an additional 400 scientists in early 2012.
