EnergyAustralia says its $300 million Tallawarra B gas power plant will be completed on time, despite the collapse of a major contractor Clough.

The recent collapse of contractor Clough has disrupted billions of dollars of energy transition projects in the National Electricity Market.

But deals have been signed by Clough’s administrators Deloitte to allow Italy’s Webuild to take over some Clough construction contracts, while GE is picking up other.

EnergyAustralia’s head of projects, Tim Walshe, says it has been a “challenging” time since Clough went into administration, but Tallawarra B is still on schedule.

“Importantly, remaining on schedule ensures Tallawarra B will be online supporting peak summer demand following the scheduled retirement of the Liddell coal-fired power station,” Mr Walshe said.

The 316-megawatt ‘fast-start’ Tallawarra B plant should be able to run partly on hydrogen, and is expected to be online by next summer.

EnergyAustralia secured $80 million of federal and state government funding to support Tallawarra B.

The company says it looks forward “to AEMO’s support to register the plant and working with network service providers Endeavour Energy and Transgrid to bring Tallawarra B online over the next nine months”.
