The Federal Government has announced Darwin-based construction company, Norbuilt, as the winning bidder for upgrading to the Central Arnhem Road and other major local infrastructure upgrades.

The Federally funded project will involve laying a 14.4 kilometre long gravel road and erecting three new single lane bridges across the Goyder River floodplain.

The work is expected to be completed in early 2014, and forms part of the $40 million pipeline of local infrastructure investment.

“Developed in consultation with the Northern Land Council, this package of works will reduce the average duration the road is impassable during the wet season from four months to just one or two weeks,” Federal Transport and Infrastructure Minister Anthony Albanese said.
