The universities of Queensland, Newcastle, Monash and Western Australia have entered a joint venture, together with Xstrata Coal, to open an International Energy Centre (IEC) in Brisbane by 2012 that will offer a Masters of Energy Studies.

The Masters course will begin in February next year, aimed at young and mid level professionals. The IEC  will follow the model of the International Water Centre,  a consortium established by the universities of Queensland, Griffith, Monash and Western Australia.

The IEC is currently recruiting a Director of Education to coordinate the Master of Energy Studies program, participate in energy research concepts and issues, and in the overall business growth of the centre.
